Tournament Results: James River Hickory Shad: April 12-13
Posted on 04/21/2008
The shad bite was on, the thunderstorm was exciting, the ramp was a cluster... and the competition was fun. Glenn Carter (fishing with some local Hopewell redneck) and Rob Choi (on his Kayak) dominated the shad tourney. Parks Rountrey fished hard both days trying to hold onto a slim lead in the Tournament Angler of the Year Points Division. In spite of catching 150 shad, Parks choked under pressure as far as quality catching nothing weighing over 1-9. Mike Cline and Robbie Robinson were waxing the shad but just could not find the big ones (that were hiding under a jon boat occupied by Glenn and Stuart). Gary Martel and his Golden Retriever fishing buddy weighed in a very respectable 1-12 shad - just out of the money. A total of 16 members fished the James that weekend for our best tournament participation of the year. Carter - with the Only fish over 2 lbs also took the $60 prize in the Calcutta and earned honorary membership in the 14th Street Anglers Club. Thanks to all who participated! Note that time of entry was used as a tiebreaker again. Weight Winners: Glenn Carter 2-1 Glenn Carter 1-14 Tony Horsley 1-13 Points Winners: Rob Choi 1-11 on 2 fly pts = 241 Mike Cline 1-9 on 2 fly pts = 223 Rob Choi 1-9 on 2 fly pts = 223
