Comment on the Proposed "National Saltwater Angler Registry" |
Posted on 07/08/2008 |
In an effort to improve the accuracy and quality of data collected regarding marine recreational fishing and catches, Congress has tapped NOAA Fisheries to spearhead the effort to build a national registry of saltwater anglers. This legislation is set to take effect January 1, 2009. Rather then randomly polling coastal residents to ask about their fishing habits, surveyors will be able to contact saltwater anglers from the registry.
NOAA Fisheries is seeking public comment on the proposed rule through August 11, 2008.
There is an initial meeting to discuss this new program and how it will be effecting VA anglers / VA licenses at 6 PM on July 16 in Newport News at the VMRC offices (4th floor).
